Portrait of Nimal Farhan Aripurath, maritime law writer and LL.B. (Hons.) candidate at IIT Kharagpur
An engineer's training, a sociologist's questions, and a lawyer's argument.

I am Nimal Farhan Aripurath, a final-year LL.B. (Hons.) candidate at the Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law, IIT Kharagpur. My academic background began in mechanical engineering, followed by postgraduate study in sociology, before I moved into law. That combination shapes how I approach legal work, with attention to how systems actually function in practice rather than only how they read on paper.

Over the course of my internships I have worked on corporate insolvency proceedings under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code before the NCLT in Hyderabad, commercial contract drafting, regulatory compliance across jurisdictions, and civil litigation before the Kerala High Court. Maritime and admiralty law is where I have developed a particular depth of interest, covering shipping contracts, the Law of the Sea, and questions of jurisdiction and liability in matters of maritime commerce.

This site brings both strands together, with in depth writing on maritime law alongside general legal commentary.

LL.B. (Hons.), IIT Kharagpur (expected 2027) M.A. Sociology, IGNOU B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, University of Calicut
